What is Registrar Lock?
Registrar Lock is a safety feature that prevents unauthorized domain transfers. By default, this feature is enabled for all your domains.
If you are transferring your domains to Namecheap, you may find instructions on how to release Registrar Lock with your current registrar in one of these articles.
If you wish to transfer your domain from Namecheap to another registrar, please see this article for instructions on how to release the Registrar Lock on your domain. This must be done before placing a transfer request with a new registrar.
How do I set/release registrar lock for a domain?
The Registrar lock prevents unauthorized domain transfers. If you are planning to transfer your domain out of Namecheap, you need to remove the registrar lock from your domain/release your domain in Namecheap before placing a transfer request at the new registrar.
In order to remove the registrar lock, follow the instructions given below:
1. Sign into your Namecheap account.
2. Select Domain List from the left sidebar and click on the Manage button next to your domain:
3. Choose Sharing & Transfer from the top menu:
4. Scroll down to the section Transfer Out and click the Unlock for Domain Lock option in order to remove the registrar lock:
Once done, you will get the notification that your domain has been successfully unlocked .
In order to set a registrar lock, click Lock for the Domain Lock option:
After that, you will get the notification that your domain has been successfully locked:
